NKOWANKOWA | Dr Mike Ramothwala has resigned as Letaba Regional Hospital Manager, bringing to a close a remarkable chapter in the hospital’s history. Since his appointment as one of South Africa’s youngest Senior Clinical Managers in 2017, Dr Ramothwala has transformed the hospital, turning it into a beacon of hope for the community.
Under his leadership, Letaba Regional Hospital has undergone a significant metamorphosis. Dr Ramothwala’s vision for a hospital that provides quality healthcare services to all has become a reality. He has achieved this through a number of initiatives, including the recruitment of numerous doctors and specialists.
One of his most notable achievements has been the establishment of an Orthopedic unit, led by Dr AK Molepo, the first Orthopedic Doctor in Mopani. This unit has reduced the need for patients to travel to Polokwane for treatment, making healthcare more accessible to the community.
Dr Ramothwala has also brought in surgeons to perform operations that were previously only done in Polokwane. These include Dr Ntsoane, Dr Jacobs, Dr Ramawela, Dr Diale, and Dr Makumbila. Their presence has enabled the hospital to provide a range of surgical services, improving healthcare outcomes for patients.
The hospital’s ability to treat chronic conditions such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes has also been enhanced under Dr Ramothwala’s leadership. This has made Letaba Regional Hospital a top choice for patients with these conditions.
Through the Rural Health Matters program, Dr Ramothwala has brought specialists to perform life-saving operations. These have included corrective surgeries for women with back pain caused by large breasts, cancer surgeries for patients with facial tumors, pediatric surgeries for children in need of operations, and orthopedic surgeries for patients with bone problems.
Dr Ramothwala’s legacy will be remembered for years to come. His dedication to improving healthcare services in the region has made a lasting impact on the community.
