MOKWAKWAILA | Friends of Mokwakwaila Library Book Club, an NPO based in Mokwakwaila, has donated 500 books to Mokwakwaila Library after winning them through the AVBOB Road to Literacy Campaign 2025 in collaboration with Oxford University Press Southern Africa (OUPSA). The handover took place on Monday, 22 September 2025, to make the books accessible to the general public, especially learners in surrounding schools.
A mobile trolley library, was awarded to the book club after entering the competition as an organization. Instead of keeping the collection for themselves, the group chose to hand over the books to Mokwakwaila Library, ensuring wider access for the community.
Formed in 2023 and chaired by Tshepo Malatsi, the Friends of Mokwakwaila Library Book Club works closely with library manager Mr. Paradise Nakana. The NPO focuses on literacy development through book reviews, spelling bees, and reading sessions. It also promotes sports, arts, and culture. The club helps children learn to read for meaning and assists young people with university and bursary applications.
Library manager Mr. Paradise Nakana emphasized that the donation will draw more people to use the library. The teachers from nearby schools will now be able to refer learners to the library, strengthening its role as a hub of knowledge and opportunity in the community.
This milestone highlights the commitment of community organizations to fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
