NKOWANKOWA | A 33 year-old man is expected to appear at Ritavi Magistrate court today, 23 September 2025 facing charges of alleged murder of his 24 year-old girlfriend at Nkowankowa, section C.
According to Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, police investigations revealed that the two engaged in a heated argument and the suspect strangled the woman to death on Friday, 19 September 2025 at about 08:00.
Police report indicated that on Sunday, 21 September 2025 at about 17:40 the suspect reportedly attempted to commit suicide. Police were alerted to the suspect’s attempted suicide by community members, who informed his family. Upon arrival, the police discovered the victim’s body tied up on the bed, and the suspect was arrested.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a senseless act of gender-based violence. The police are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, although domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
