MOPANI SAPS DONATES FOOD PARCELS TO THE NEEDY FAMILIES AT GA-MATSHWI

GA-MATSHWI | The South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully hosted an outreach programme through its Social Crime Prevention unit, at Ga-Matshwi Community Hall today on Thursday, 02 April 2026.

 

The initiative focused on the official handing over of food parcels to vulnerable and needy members of the community, as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime by addressing social challenges.

 

Chaplain Maluleke offered a word of prayer as an opening of the event. The attendees were then welcomed by Ward Committee representative, Pulane Modika, who expressed appreciation for SAPS’s continued commitment to supporting local communities.

 

Bolobedu SAPS Station Commander, Colonel HS Maluleke, acknowledged the presence of various stakeholders, community leaders, and SAPS officials.

 

Brigadier Mary Mashila, on the purpose of the day emphasized the importance of community-based crime prevention initiatives. She highlighted that poverty and social distress often contribute to crime, and that initiatives such as these play a vital role in building safer communities.

 

Messages of support were delivered by traditional leader Ntona Matshwi and Brigadier Mohlongo from Provincial Pro-Active Policing. Both speakers reinforced the importance of collaboration between the police and the community in addressing crime and promoting social cohesion.

 

The Mopani District Commissioner of Police, Major General Willy Mashava delivered the keynote address, where he reaffirmed SAPS’s dedication to proactive policing and community engagement. He encouraged community members to work closely with law enforcement agencies and emphasized that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.

The Community Police Forum (CPF), thanked everyone who contributed towards making this event a success.

 

This initiative forms part of SAPS’s broader strategy to integrate social development with crime prevention, ensuring that communities are not only protected but also supported in meaningful and impactful ways.
