POLICE ARREST 37-YEAR-OLD FOR POSSESSION OF UNLICENSED FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

MOLETLANE – A 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation conducted in the Moletlane policing area.

The police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the arrest was effected after police received information from a reliable source regarding a suspect allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm. Members from Moletlane Detectives, working together with Lebowakgomo detectives, operationalised the information and traced the suspect to Mathibela Phase 1.

Upon searching the suspect, police recovered a 9mm pistol with one magazine and one live round of ammunition concealed in a side bag.

The suspect is currently detained at Moletlane SAPS and will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 January 2026 on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
