POLOKWANE: The South African Police Service(SAPS) National Marathon Association together with Seshego Marathon Organizers, Sisonke Foundation successfully hosted the SAPS National Marathon Championships 2025, proudly sponsored by POLMED, on Sunday, 14 September 2025 in Seshego, outside Polokwane.
This year’s event carried a special message as participants, community members, and key stakeholders collectively used the platform to strengthen the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Seshego, one of Limpopo’s hotspots and among the country’s top 30 in reported GBVF cases, gave the advocacy greater significance.
A total of 548 SAPS members from across South Africa — including KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, and other provinces — participated, demonstrating that fitness, discipline, and resilience can be powerful tools of advocacy. In addition, approximately 1000 community members took part.
Addressing participants before the results, the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended their determination and resilience, noting that every step taken symbolised progress in the fight against GBVF — whether through arresting perpetrators, raising awareness, or securing convictions. She further extended gratitude to stakeholders, with particular recognition to POLMED for their support.
