SUSPECT ESCAPES FROM LAWFUL CUSTODY WHILE ADMITTED AT A HOSPITAL

THABAZIMBI : Thabazimbi police under Waterberg District have launched a manhunt for an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from Thabazimbi hospital. The incident occurred on Saturday 28 February 2026 at about 18h00.

Sibongeseni Khumalo who was in custody for business robbery, was shot during his arrest and placed under police guard after being admitted to hospital. The circumstances surrounding his escape is under internal investigation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 30 year old asked to visit the bathroom and ultimately escaped.

The suspect has since escaped and a manhunt has been launched.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the police to make use of the available resources to track and trace the awaiting trial prisoner.
