THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER ROBBING BUSINESSMAN IN LEBOWAKGOMO

LEBOWAKGOMO : Three male suspects have been arrested following the robbery of a businessman who buys scrap metal from community members in Lebowakgomo. The incident occurred in Zone Q on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, at approximately 11:30.
The Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the police operational teams comprising the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigations Unit, in collaboration with Tshimollo Security and Investigation, were swiftly mobilised after the incident was reported.
During the robbery, a shot was fired at the victim but missed. The businessman managed to disarm one of the suspects and strike him on the head, causing minor injuries. The suspects fled with cash into nearby bushes, leaving the firearm behind.
Intelligence-led operations traced the suspects after they boarded a taxi to Lebowakgomo Zone F, where all three suspects, aged 49 years, were arrested.
Police recovered balaclavas, gloves, housebreaking tools, the stolen cash, and a 9mm firearm with a filed-off serial number, as well as ammunition.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 January 2026, on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, possession of housebreaking equipment, pointing of a firearm, and contravention of Section 18 of the Riotous Assemblies Act 17 of 1956.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the swift and coordinated operation.
