Mayor Odas Ngobeni Introduces A Contractor For New Paving Construction Project at Makhwibidung

LISTENABLE | Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor, His Worship Councillor Odas Ngobeni, led a road infrastructure oversight programme across three villages on Monday, 17 August 2026. The programme began at Mafarana Village where the Mayor and GTM councillors monitored progress on an ongoing road project aimed at improving access for residents. From Mafarana, the Mayor proceeded to Makhwibidung Village where he officially introduced the appointed contractor and turned the sod for the upgrade of the Serututung and Tickyline access road. The 24-month project will upgrade the road from gravel to a pave road across Wards 29 and 35 and is expected to create 55 work opportunities for local residents. RSMM Construction (Pty) Ltd is the appointed contractor. The Mayor was joined at Makhwibidung by the Speaker of Council, the Chief Whip, Members of the Executive Committee, the Marobela Royal Family, Ward 29 Councillor Willy Maake and Ward 35 Councillor Ngwako Elton Ratopola. He concluded the day at Serututung Village with an inspection of the Serututung to Malege 6km road paving project. The project is currently 48% complete and is expected to be completed next year. The Municipality said the 6km paved road will improve access, reduce travel time and boost economic activity for communities along the route.
