MOKWAKWAILA | Residents of Ga-Motupa Village Zone 1, Ward 10, under the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, gathered outside the Eskom offices in Mokwakwaila on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, to raise concerns over a prolonged power outage in the area. The community states that Eskom previously assessed the problem and identified a faulty transformer as the cause of the outage. However, residents claim that since May, they have been waiting for the transformer to be repaired, with no clear feedback from Eskom. Residents say the lack of electricity is negatively affecting the community, including Mohlatlego Machaba High School, local businesses and households. They further raised concerns that the ongoing power outage is disrupting learners’ schoolwork, particularly Grade 12 learners who need electricity to study and prepare for their examinations. An Eskom official who attended the community meeting advised residents to contact Eskom through its customer care service or online platforms to lodge their complaints and seek further assistance and resolution.
