SOUTH AFRICA | Istore, South Africa’s only Apple Premium partner launched Istore pay, a new payment solution that lets local businesses accept contactless payments using only an iPhone.
The company says it is the first partner to bring Apple’s Tap to pay on iPhone to South Africa. The service allows merchants to accept credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets through the iStore Pay app, with no extra hardware or payment terminal required.
“Two decades ago, we set out to bring the Very best of Apple to South Africans. With the launch of iStore Pay, that commitment now extends to entrepreneurs and small businesses,” said Chris Dodd, CEO of iStore South Africa.
“By enabling Tap to Pay in iPhone locally, we are helping remove traditional barriers to commerce and making it easier for businesses to accept payments using technology they already have.”
iStore Pay requires an iPhone XS or later running IOS 18 or later. The company said there are no upfront, Monthly,or payout fees at launch, and businesses can start accepting payments in under 15 minutes. Transaction fees start at 2.5% with a pay-as-you-transact model. Payouts coat a flat R2.99 per transaction, with free daily payouts offered until 31 July 2026 for merchants with a minimum wallet balance of R500.
The app also acts as a business dashboard, letting users track sales, managing funds, and view payouts and refunds in real time.
iStore said Tao to Pay on iPhone uses built-in iPhone security features, and Apple does not store card numbers or transaction information on the device or its servers.
