MAYOR ODAS NGOBENI INTRODUCES CONTRACTORS FOR R7.9 MILLION CULVERT BRIDGE PROJECTS IN DAN EXT 2 AND NKOMANINI

Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor, Cllr Odas Ngobeni, has officially introduced the contractors and consulting engineer appointed to construct two culvert bridge projects valued at a combined R7.9 million in Dan Ext 2 and Nkomanini villages.

The contractor introduction ceremonies were held on Thursday, 17 July 2026, marking the official commencement of the projects. The Dan Ext 2–Mokgoloboto Culvert Bridge project is valued at R3.2 million, while the Nkomanini Culvert Bridge project is valued at R4.7 million. Both projects are funded through the Municipal Disaster Response Grant and are scheduled for completion within eight months, from 17 July 2026 to 17 March 2027.

During the ceremonies, Mayor Ngobeni introduced KM Mash Trading as the appointed contractor for the Dan Ext 2–Mokgoloboto Culvert Bridge and Bolombe 82 Trading and Projects as the contractor for the Nkomanini Culvert Bridge. Prolink Consulting Engineers was introduced as the consulting engineer responsible for overseeing the implementation of both projects.

Addressing community members, Mayor Ngobeni called on residents to support the contractors throughout the construction period by protecting construction equipment and infrastructure and working collaboratively to ensure the successful completion of the projects within the stipulated timeframe and required quality standards.

The scope of work includes site establishment, traffic accommodation, site clearance, mass earthworks, concrete works, steel reinforcement, installation of portal culverts, construction of gabions, stone pitching, and the installation of road signage.

In line with the municipality’s commitment to local economic development and job creation, the projects will create employment opportunities for local residents through the appointment of Community Liaison Officers (CLOs), Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Representatives, and labourers recruited through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Upon completion, the two culvert bridges will significantly improve road connectivity and provide safer access for motorists and pedestrians, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. The infrastructure will also improve access to schools, healthcare facilities, businesses and other essential services for the affected communities.
