POLOKWANE | The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has urged community members to desist from circulating false and misleading videos on social media platforms, warning that such actions create unnecessary panic, confusion, and mistrust within communities.
According to the information received from the Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, says this follows after the circulation of a cellphone video recorded at Zebediela Shopping Complex under the Moletlane policing area during a police stop-and-search operation conducted on Thursday, 07 May 2026.
According to available information, police members were conducting routine crime prevention duties when a group of males was stopped and searched. No illegal items were found in their possession and no arrests were effected.
Lieutenant General Hadebe expressed concern over the misleading allegations accompanying the video, stating that the sharing of unverified and distorted information has the potential to undermine police operations and negatively impact the relationship between communities and law enforcement agencies.
“Public is urged to verify information before sharing it on social media platforms. The irresponsible circulation of misleading content may create unnecessary fear and compromise ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining law and order.” Says Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The Provincial Commissioner further encouraged community members to continue working closely with the police by reporting criminal activities through proper channels and supporting crime prevention initiatives across the province.
