LEPHALALE : The Police n Lephalale appeals to the members of the public for assistance in locating a male person of interest as they believe his presence could be critical in the investigation of a murder that occurred in March 2026.
According to the police reports, on Saturday 27 March 2026 at about 21:10, the police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the police responded to a shooting incident at a local tavern in Onverwacht Section, Lephalale. Upon arrival, police found a 32-year-old male victim lying on his back with three gunshot wounds on the chest and two on the back of the head.
The members of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned and the victim was declared deceased upon their arrival at the scene .
Six male suspects eventually fled the scene on foot immediately after the incident. A murder case was opened at the local police station.
Following rapid investigative work, police managed to trace and arrest four male suspects at a hideout in Onverwacht Section the next day on 28 March 2026. Two suspects were believed to have fled to Soweto in Gauteng province.
The manhunt continued and on 02 April 2026, a fifth suspect was arrested in the Groblersdal policing area under the Sekhukhune District. All five suspects have made several court appearances and remain in police custody.
Ledwaba says the police are looking for Mluleki Sipho Mzobe aged 30 , also known by the nickname “Baba” who remains at large. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Mzobe in connection with the murder.
