POLOKWANE | The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentencing of Matome Ruben Modiba (31) after he was found guilty of multiple counts of rape in Maake policing area, Tzaneen Mopani District.
The Polokwane High court, found him guilty and sentenced him to 141 years direct imprisonment for rape and robbery.
The prima facie evidence presented before Polokwane High Court was that in 12 February 2017 at around 05: 30, the victim was walking from Maake plaza on her way to home when she met an unknown man who forcefully grabbed, raped and robbed her cellphone. A rape case was registered. The accused continued with his habit of committing crime, rape and robbery using the same modus operandi without being identified and caught.
On the 18 November 2022 at around 20:00, a 16 year old female victim was walking along TVET college road with her friends when they met an unknown male person who dragged the victim to the nearby bushes and raped her. A case of rape was reported at Maake SAPS where the docket was assigned to Sergeant Tintswalo Vukeya, who is attached to Tzaneen Family Violent Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit to investigate. Sergeant Vukeya worked tirelessly to ensure that justice is served. Through her meticulous investigation, the accused was linked by the DNA resulting in Modiba’s arrest. Since his arrest, he was denied bail until Tuesday, 21 April 2026, when he was found guilty and sentenced to 141 years imprisonment combined.

Modiba will serve a combined total of 141 years imprisonment. He was declared unfit poses a firearm.
The provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the meticulous investigation, resulting in justice being served.
