President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Puleng Dimpane as Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), with immediate effect.
The appointment follows the precautionary suspension of National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Ramaphosa said the seriousness of the charges against Masemola required urgent intervention. He confirmed that, after consultations, both parties agreed that the commissioner be placed on precautionary suspension.
Dimpane will assume the role in an acting capacity while the matter involving Masemola is being addressed. The presidency has indicated that the decision is to ensure stability and continuity within the police service during this period.
