MAEKO FOUNDATION HOSTS GIRLS EMPOWERMENT AND MENSTRUAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN AT RATHAGA PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Maeko Foundation, led by its Founder Ms. Tshegofatso Maeko from Mohlakong Village, successfully hosted a Girls Empowerment and Menstrual Health Awareness Campaign at Rathaga Primary School recently.

The campaign targeted Grade 6 and 7 female learners with the aim of addressing menstrual-related school absenteeism, restoring dignity, and building confidence among young girls.

As part of its commitment to ending period poverty, the Foundation donated 110 sanitary pads to learners, ensuring that no girl child is forced to miss school due to lack of access to sanitary products.

The programme was supported by invited professionals, including a qualified Social Worker and a Nurse, who provided educational sessions on menstrual hygiene management, reproductive health, mental wellness, and self-esteem.

“Hosting this campaign at Rathaga Primary School was a profoundly emotional and fulfilling moment for me. As a young woman from Mohlakong village, I understand the challenges our girls face. Many girls miss school and lose confidence because of their periods. Through the Maeko Foundation, our mission is to ensure that menstruation never stands in the way of a girl’s education. We did not just donate pads; we donated confidence and dignity.”

The learners participated actively, engaging in open and informative discussions in a safe and supportive environment.

The Maeko Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Principal, educators and learners of Rathaga Primary School, as well as the guest speakers for their support in making the initiative a success.
