MAYOR ODAS NGOBENI MARKS 100 DAYS IN OFFICE BY HANDING OVER NEW HOME TO MORWASEHLA FAMILY IN RELELA.

RELELA VILLAGE | The Mayor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Cllr Odas Ngobeni, marked his first 100 days in office with a gesture of compassion and service by officially handing over a newly built home to the Morwasehla family in Relela Village this morning, Wednesday, 02 September 2026.

The handover follows a visit to the village on 17 June 2026, when Mayor Ngobeni learnt about the family’s difficult living conditions after their home was severely damaged by fire and rendered structurally unsafe.

Moved by the family’s plight, the Mayor pledged to assist them in securing a safe, dignified and suitable home. True to his commitment, the newly constructed four-bedroom house has now been completed and furnished, providing the family with a fresh start.

During the handover ceremony, Headman Mathibela expressed his appreciation for Mayor Ngobeni’s dedication and hard work, saying the Mayor’s commitment to improving the lives of residents is clearly visible.

In recognition of his efforts, Nduna Mathibele gave the Mayor the name *“Moshumi”*, a name he said is a testament to the Mayor’s hard work and commitment to serving the community.

Speaking on behalf of the Elder Men’s Forum, Mr Manzini also conveyed heartfelt words of gratitude to Mayor Ngobeni, commending him for ensuring that senior citizens and the Elder Men’s Forum are not left behind in the municipality’s development programmes.

Mr Morwasehla, meanwhile, shared the painful story of losing his home to fire. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Mayor, his team, family members and community members for helping restore not only his home, but also his dignity and hope.

“May our Mayor live longer,” said Mr Morwasehla.
