MAVELE VILLAGE | The Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor, Cllr Odas Ngobeni, proceeded to visit the child-headed Mongwe family for the sod-turning ceremony marking the beginning of the construction of a new house for the family at Mavele Village in Ward 6 today, Monday, 28 September 2026,
The Mongwe household consists of seven children who are living without their parents. The children currently reside together in a one-roomed house, which has raised concerns about their living conditions.
Mayor Ngobeni was previously alerted of the family’s situation and visited the household to assess their circumstances. Following this, the local headman was approached and requested that the family be allocated a stand where a new house could be constructed.
The headman granted the request, and construction of the new house is expected to commence in the coming week on the newly allocated stand.
During his visit, Mayor Ngobeni also donated food parcels to the family as part of efforts to provide immediate assistance while the construction of their new home gets underway.
The Mongwe family expressed their gratitude and happiness towards the Mayor for his intervention and support, saying the construction of the new house will bring hope and improve their living conditions.
