TWO YOUNG BOYS DROWNED IN A LOCAL RIVER IN NKAMBAKO VILLAGE

NKAMBAKO VILLAGE – Two boys aged between 06 and 07 have drowned in Xilovola river in Nkambako village. The police in Letsitele are investigating an inquest case following this tragic drowning that claimed lives of two young boys yesterday on Wednesday 15 April 2026 at about 09:00.

 

The Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the police were on patrol duties when they received a complaint of drowning and rushed to the vicinity. On arrival at the scene, police found the two minor male victims lying on the ground outside the river. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel had already declared them dead at the scene.

 

Preliminary investigations indicated that the boys were swimming in the river when they drowned. A younger brother who was present ran home to alert their parents. The parents notified community members who responded and retrieved the boys from the water.

 

Postmortem examinations will be conducted by Forensic Pathology Services to determine the exact cause of death.

 

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed sadness at the loss of two young lives. She urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and monitor the whereabouts of their children at all times to avert tragic incidents of this nature.

 

Police investigations are continuing.
